Janice from New Jersey Writes:
We have a house that we rent out during the summer and off season the house is not used as often. I\'ve noticed black stringy-looking stuff sometimes hanging from the faucet screens. Do you know what it is or what we should do about it. I\'ve scrubbed it off, but it eventually comes back. Thanks for your help.
Hi Janice
That's either a bacterial growth or some sort of mold or algae most likely. You may want to disinfect your pipes using a high strength chlorine (javex) solution, then flush it through. During the off season, draining your water lines and ensuring they are dry and there is no water in them by blowing them through with compressed air may also help.
Hope I've helped.
