Leaching Free Water Bottle - Plastic Leaching Free Water Bottle - Stainless Steel
Cathrine from Florida Writes:
Since plastic is made from gasoline, I want to know if you leave a bottle of water in the car and the temperature in the car gets to 120 degrees are there traces of gasoline or like chemicals leaked into the drinking water from the plastic?
Hi Catherine
Thank you for writing in.
Plastic is not made from gasoline. It is made from crude oil. Basically, crude oil has many parts that make it up. Gasoline, diesel and other fuels are part of it, but so are plastics. They put the crude oil in a device called a "fractional distiller" and by heating it to different temperatures, extract the different materials that make up the oils.
I am not 100% sure if storing water bottles in a hot car will leach out any organic carbons to any detrimental levels - I do know that BPA leaching is a concern with some but not all plastics. Have a look at this article, it might help you:

I hope that helps.
